What Customers Say About Fallout 3:

In the case of games, movies, and the like they won't refund the purchase amount, since there is too much chance for abuse, but they will give you an in store credit. I should have made all my purchases at a local nationwide chain which has a "no questions asked" return policy. to find a solution had failed, they "made an exception in this one case." Problem is, once I installed and tried to run Far Cry it too would not run for whatever reason so best case, I'm out the $20.Aside from the suggestion to make sure as much as possible you know what gotchas might be involved with a game, I'd suggest, if it's not terribly inconvenient, to buy from a local store.

Don't worry about the "minimum" and "recommended" portions of the game box. The problem, if you purchase from Amazon, is, once the package is open, you can not return it. BEFORE you purchase this game, or any other for that matter, BE VERY careful and read the appropriate game forums/support sites to see if you find problems (and trust me there are a number) with running the game.

Obviously creating quite a dilemma since you won't know if it does or doesn't run until you've OPENed it, installed it, and tried to run it.In fairness to Amazon and in the spirit of full disclosure, I contacted them once Fallout 3 wouldn't run, and all efforts (i.e., forums, tech support, etc). If nothing else that's money you can use to fill out your Xmas list. There are STILL a ton of issues that will keep you from even running the game.I just received Fallout 3, along with its add-on The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage, Far Cry 2, and Neverwinters Night Gold, plus an expansion.

Neverwinter is the oldest of these 3 games and is the only one that I can get working :( and I exceed the "recommended" configuration by quite a margin.

no solution I could find. Exciting Game Play. Running Vista Home, 4 gigs RAM, and 2.1 GHz. Oh, the background music still plays but you can't move, access menus, open the console, or even quit have to warm boot and close program.

Graphics are great. Save your money and buy Oblivion same type of game different era but went all the way through game and over 100 mods and didn't have any problems. Went to boards and a lot of people have this problem. Open world go where and do what you want.

It's not to back at first, but by the time I got to level 17 and over 1/2 way through the main quest it was freezing every 3-4 steps I took. Same company same graphics etc. Great Story Line. UNFORTUNATELY, this game freezes up and you can't do anything.

I would recommend saving often as the end came as a surprise and I had failed to find some cities and side quests. Scenes could have been a little more colorful since it takes place long after the devastation (radiation levels were normal in most land masses). Overall enjoyable game. The game ran smoothly, no hang-ups or problems.

Vista has been my bread and butter OS since 07' and I didn't plan on reinstalling until Win7 was released. I've tried every trick out there to get it to work on Vista, but I've had no luck at all. I can launch it, but when I try to start a new game, it crashes to desktop. Somehow after 15 years of PC gaming and 27 years on consoles, I managed to finally try one out. Overall, it's a pretty good game as long as you can get it running on your PC. Oh well, I guess I'll be switching over to Win7 early. As far as the game goes, I've only played a few hours worth.

I'm going to try it on XP, but I don't have hope. Updated Review:MY gaming PC is set up for triple booting. Fallout 3 seems to run fine when I boot into XP (SP3) and Windows 7 (RC1). I don't see any lag in XP.

The only problem I have right now is with some mouse lag in Win7. The graphics are top notch and my Nvidia 8800GTX is feeling it. I have an XBOX 360, but I didn't want to have to play this game with a hand controller. I'm probably going to return it to Amazon.

The 3 star overall rating is simply because of the issues with stability on Vista.Original Review:I own tons of newer games for the PC and I've never seen a game that refuses to work like Fallout 3. I actually snagged the limited edition version since it went on sale and was the same price as the regular edition. If I could change my ratings, I would give it 5 stars on the fun factor and 3 stars overall. It still ticks me off that Fallout 3 won't run on my Vista (SP2) install.

If you have an Xbox 360 or PS3, you might want to consider getting the game for on of those instead. I love the post-apocalypse world that Fallout 3 has been created around. I must admit that this is my first venture into RPGs. So far, I'm pretty impressed with Fallout 3.

It's really pretty sad that bethsoft's rep for making good games is being shot all to hell by this. They *ALWAYS* seem to happen right about the time you're thinking to yourself "gee, I better save before it crashes", then it goes belly up seconds before you actually save.Do you get it.Well, if you know and like the universe AND you can put up with saving after every single combat "just in case", then sure, do it. Not if, WHEN.

Seriously, it may be the game that I've played with the most random crash bugs *EVER*, and I've been PC gaming since the era of the 286. It really is a good game & story. The worst thing about the crashes.

Ok, so it's months after the release and there's several DLC packs out.The good:When it's working this game is damn near perfect, more fun and engaging than most RPG's around. The bad:When it crashes. Since the latest patches + DLC update, you may not even be able to exit the game back to desktop with hard locking the computer. However, if the thought of restarting the game 5 times in 5 minutes sends you into nerd rage, no, stay far FAR away.

Sometimes you'll play along for several hours without a hitch, sometimes the game will crash to desktop 5 times in as many minutes. And the kicker.
